2. Abstract Submission Policies

2.1. Each Author can submit two (2) Abstracts as First author to the XXI Brazilian Physical Therapy Congress (XXI COBRAF). However you may co-author as many other abstracts as desired;
2.2. Abstracts will be accepted in Portuguese, Spanish and English;
2.3. The First Author must be the abstract presenter on the XXI COBRAF. To assure annals organization and authors index, highlight your name consistently throughout all abstracts you appear as author;
2.4. Submission fee for each abstract submission will be R$ 20,00 (twenty Brazilian Reais) not refundable (even for rejected abstracts or duplicate submitted abstracts). The instructions to pay the submission fee will be detailed on the system during the submission process. Check if the same abstract has not been submitted more than once;
2.5. All submitted abstracts will be analyzed by peer-review process. The final acceptance decision is the exclusive right of the XXI COBRAF scientific committee;
2.6. Research with human participants must comply with the Resolution n. 466/ 12 December 2012, of National health Council (CNS) the approbation number (Certificate of Presentation for Ethical Consideration) must be informed in the text. Human studies conducted in other countries must mention the current code of ethics or ethical resolution.Animal studies must comply with regulations of the institutional ethics committee and/or to the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals; Institute of Laboratory Animal Research; Commission on Life Sciences, National Research Council, Washington/EUA. Also must be informed in the text body;
2.7. Presentations related to commercial products must focus on physiological and/or applied science, not about the product itself or its commercial aspects. Besides that, the presentation must allow a complete discussion of scientific validity and/or therapeutical benefits as well as product risks, where applicable;
2.8. At the moment of submission, the author must indicate the preference of presentation:
I- Oral 8.2: featuring 8 minutes of oral presentation and 2 minutes of argumentation;
II- Expo 5: Oral presentation during 5 minutes containing 5 slides;
III - Poster;
IV – Indifferent: The author do not have any preference about type of presentation;
2.9. Based on peer-review evaluation, the scientific committee reserves the right to allocate an abstract to a specific presentation category. Due to the number of abstracts submitted on the last editions of COBRAF, most of presentations will be organized in poster format;
2.10. At the moment of submission, the author must classify the paper in a major area by selecting pre-established descriptors, as the following categories:

C01. Basic and Experimental Field: researches that use animal models to study clinical changes and / or approaching physiotherapy intervention methods;

C02. Public Policies: Papers focused on systematic information collection from monitoring systems that enables data evaluation about magnitude, scope, characteristics and consequences in health-disease process, as well as health services reorientation and implementation of Brazilian public policies;

C03. Teaching and research in physiotherapy: Papers focused on discussions concerning vocational training of physiotherapists, health education and evidence-based practices;

C04. Innovation and Technological Resources: Papers that use and/or propose new technological resources as evaluation process or physiotherapy intervention;

C05. Management and Social Control: Papers discussing community participation in public management including pedagogical practices in the field of research and management, based on physiotherapy in public health;

C06. Physiotherapy in Primary Health Care: Papers focused on prevention, health promotion and rehabilitation in the context of family and communities health, based on different life cicles;

C07. Physiotherapy in Human Functionality: Papers analyzing the clinical applicability and the importance of the ICF and papers focused on variables related to human functionality, applied in populations with or without dysfunction;

C08. Functional-Kinesiology Diagnosis and Therapeutic Resources: Papers related to assessment and intervention in different areas of physiotherapy.

2.11. The author will receive on the registered email a notification about the abstract acceptance/rejection within the deadline (Item 1). This notification will include presentation date and time as well as presentation modality (Item 2.9), in case of acceptance;
2.12. All expenses associated with the submission and registration of an abstract, as well as other expenses associated with the trip to present the abstract in the XXI COBRAF are under the responsibility of the authors. The Scientific Ccommittee recommends to not submit an abstract if you are not sure of your attendance at the congress;
2.13. When making the submission of the abstract, the authors agree with all the rules of the event explained in this Call for Submission and authorize the publication of the abstract(s) in the media to disseminate the XXI Brazilian Physical Therapy Congress, being responsible for the content presented;
2.14. After the final date of submission, there is no more possibility of changes, for both personal data and the attached content.

3. Abstract preparation:

3.1. Authors should follow the model that is available on the website of the XXI Brazilian Physical Therapy Congress (Click here to download the template);
3.2. The abstract should be structured and must contain the following items : Introduction; Aims; Method; Results; Conclusion; Key-words; Acknowledgments (optional item and should be inserted after the descriptorskey-words). The abstract should be written with justified alignment , on a page and limited to 400 words (counting only the body text);
3.3. The Key-words are limited to three (3) and must be separated by semicolons. It is recommended that authors access the DECS platform (Descriptors in Health Sciences: http://decs.bvs.br/ ) from BVS to select descriptors to be included at the end of the abstract;
3.4. The title should be brief and succinct, with no more than 15 words, written in bold, Arial Narrow font , size 14. The authors limit stipulated by absctract will be eight (8). Include only the e- mail of the responsible author at the end of affiliations and indicated by asterisk;
3.5. All abstracts must be submitted in a Word processor (2010 or higher). Topics should be written in Arial Narrow, bold, size 12. The body text should be written in Arial Narrow font, size 12, single spacing and justified;
3.6. The aims should be written clearly and be consistent with the research question posed by the study. The presentation of the hypotheses of the study after the objectives is optional;
3.7. The method should be written in plain text, and contain information related to the participants’ characteristics, the Ethics Committee approval ( CAAE - certificated number or study approval protocol), evaluation procedures, outcomes (if any), brief description of the equipment used, intervention procedures (if any) and statistical analysis. Other information that is judged necessary may be included, depending on the type of study and by discretion of the authors, provided they do not exceed the limit of 400 words;
3.8. The results should present the main findings of the research, based on the entire procedure described in the method. Include numerical results indicating the statistical significance (P value). In case of intervention studies include the effect size and respective 95% confidence interval (95% CI) . The information should be concise and clear;
3.9. The conclusion must focus on the results and be consistent with the proposed objectives. Include the practical / clinical implications of the study, when possible;
3.10. Abstracts that are not in accordance with the template and with the submission rules will be automatically disqualified;
3.11. All accepted abstracts will be included in the annals of the XXI Brazilian Physical Therapy Congress, registered in the ISSN system;
3.12. The five (5) best abstracts of each presentation category will receive certificates of academic merit and awards.

4.Criterion of abstract's judgment

4.1. After completion of the Submission, the abstracts will be sent to ad hoc reviewers for judgment of their merits. The reviewing process will be blind;
4.2. The following items will be analyzed and each one will be graded from 0-10.
4.2.1. Up-to-date, original and relevant information;
4.2.2. Title relevance;
4.2.3. Contextualized introduction;
4.2.4. Relevance of the objectives and coherence of hypotheses (if any);
4.2.5. Adequacy, quality and description of the method;
4.2.6. Relevance of the results and consistency with the method;
4.2.7. Groundwork, consistency and generalization of the conclusion;
4.2.8. Quality of writing and text organization (clarity and objectivity);
4.2.9. Relevance of the practical and / or clinical implications arising from the study;
4.3. The final grade of the abstract will be calculated by averaging the scores attributed to each item;
4.4. Only abstracts with a final score greater than or equal to six (6). will be accepted.

5. Rules to abstract presentation

5.1. All the abstracts approved by the Scientific Commission will be presented as oral (Oral 8.2 or Expo5) or poster modality;
5.2. All abstracs will be argued during the presentation and will be competing for the awards stablished in the Item 6 of this Call for Submission;
5.3. No changes will be allowed for the presentation hours and sessions of the abstracts;
5.4. For the Poster Session , the following instructions must be observed;
5.4.1. The sessions will be organized at specific hours and predetermined periods of the day;
5.4.2. Authors must remain close to their poster during the period of the session, even after being argued by the evaluation commission;
5.5. For the Oral Sessions , the following instructions must be observed;
5.5.1. In the "Oral 8.2" , each participant will have 8 minutes to present the abstract to the Commission Appraiser followed by 2 minutes for argumentation;
5.5.2. In the "Expo5 " , each participant will have five minutes to present the abstract before the Commission Appraiser. Each "Expo5" session will comprise the presentation of four (4) studies in sequence. At the end of the four (4) presentations, there will be a period of 5 minutes for discussion / from the public and the evaluation commission.

6. Awards


6.1. Certificates of academic merit and prizes will be awarded to the five (5) best studies in each presentation category (Oral 8.2 Expo5 and poster);
6.2. The awards will be held on the last day of the XXI COBRAF.
